"Major LEONARD HENRY POCOCK, R.E.M.E., who died on active service in Germany on 7th March 1947, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1941. He served his apprenticeship from 1911 to 1913 with Messrs. D. Napier and Sons, at Acton, and concurrently attended courses in engineering at the Regent Street Polytechnic. In 1914 he went to Canada, and started a small engineering works and garage business, but in the following year he enlisted in the Canadian Forces and served overseas with the British Expeditionary Force until 1917, when he was commissioned and posted to the Royal Tank Corps as assistant in the repair shops. After holding a brief appointment at the Khaki University of Canada, as instructor of mechanical engineering, he became associated with Messrs. Lovingtons, Ltd., engineers and contractors, London, and held the position of works and transport manager for eighteen years. In 1938 he rejoined the Service and was appointed an Ordnance Mechanical Engineer. He became officer commanding workshops, Tidworth, and in 1941 was seconded to the Canadian Armoured Corps as technical adviser; subsequently he was officer commanding workshops, Warminster."
