DAVID MURRAY MILNE was born in 1886 and served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Clyne, Mitchell and Company, of Aberdeen, from 1902 to 1908, concurrently attending classes at Robert Gordon's College. During 1908 and 1909 he underwent a further course of study at the Manchester Municipal School of Technology while gaining experience at the works of Messrs. Cowans, Ltd.
The whole of his subsequent professional career was spent in the Malay States, to which he proceeded in 1909, having received an appointment as chief consulting engineer to Messrs. Harrisons and Crosfield, Ltd., rubber merchants, of Kwala Lumpur, and thus began an association which lasted for thirty-two and a half years. During this long period he was responsible for the erection of all factories and machinery for the firm, and in addition was concerned with the manufacture of rubber.
Mr. Milne, whose death occurred at Durban on 3rd June 1944, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1923.
