1954 Bio Note [1]

Dr. Wallace was educated at Dean Close School, Cheltenham, and the University of Birmingham where he graduated with first-class honours. After a year's research work on piston ring flutter he obtained practical experience at the General Electric Co., Ltd., Birmingham. He returned to Birmingham University as James Watt Research Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, in which capacity he was jointly responsible for a paper, read before the Institution, entitled, 'Wave Action following the sudden Release of Air through an Engine Port System'.

Following the award of the degree of Ph.D. he was appointed I.C.I. Fellow and, in 1951, lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
