Karl Otter Forrer (1889-1949)

1950 Obituary [1]

"KARL Orro FORRER , who was born in Switzerland in 1889, spent practically the whole of his professional career in Australia. He was educated at the state and grammar schools at Wattwill, Switzerland, and served his apprenticeship in his father's works from 1905 to 1908. His theoretical training was obtained under various professors and at the Technical College in Duisberg, Germany. After some experience in the testing department of Messrs. Bechem and Keetman, of Duisberg, he went, in 1911, to Australia, and became foreman to the Evers Motor Company, of Brisbane.

On the outbreak of war in 1914 he enlisted in the Australian Forces, and eventually rose to be officer-in-charge of the Australian workshops in England. Returning to Australia in 1920 he went into business on his own account and, in conjunction with Mr. A. M'C. Scott, managed a foundry at Ipswich, Queensland. On the termination of this association in 1928 he established the firm of Messrs. Forrer's Pty., Ltd., engineers and pump makers in the same town, which he continued to direct until his death on 31st August 1948. Mr. Ferrer was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1943."
