Miles Sparrowjet

1953 A Miles Sparrowhawk (first registered in 1935) was rebuilt by F. G. Miles Ltd with two Turbomeca Palas turbojets, so becoming the first British light aircraft to use jet power. Designated as M.77. The taiplane was redesigned with two small fins. It was designed for racing and research flying, with particular reference to the suitability of this type of aircraft as a primary trainer.
1953 first flight of the Sparrowjet took place at Shoreham on 14th December.
It had been designed by George Herbert Miles who piloted the plane on its first flight.
