410. BARRETT, EXALL, and ANDREWS, Katesgrove Iron Works, Reading — Manufacturers and Inventors.
A combination of machinery, by which flour, etc. is passed through the various processes of manufacture to the complete preparation of the biscuit. The flour, etc. is put into the first machine, where it is thoroughly mixed; it then passes to the breaking-machine, where it is kneaded until it becomes sufficiently tenacious to be passed through rollers. From these rollers it is conveyed to the adjusting rolls which reduce it to the required dimensions. It then passes in a continuous sheet, by means of an endless canvas, to another machine, where it is cut, docked, crimped, and stamped. The biscuits are then divided from the waste dough, and conveyed to the oven. The waste dough is collected and passed by means of a shute to be re-rolled.
