A. Horlock & Co of Northfleet Ironworks, Kent
- 1848 Built two locomotives for the 4ft gauge Dinorwic Slate Quarries. [1]. One of these, 'Fire Queen', has survived into preservation (see photo). The design is unusual, but the workmanship is excellent.
- Arthur Horlock started up the Northfleet Ironworks in 1847, when he was only 25, taking over a new factory from Poynder & Medlicott (Medlicott being his uncle). He became bankrupt in 1853. His factory was sold to Bell, Wells & Co, shipbuilders. He was later employed at Fletcher’s shipyard in Gravesend, and died in 1866. [2]
