1893 Patent application by Ernest Matthewson for Two Man Footballer, 2 Player machine.

c.1896 Footballer Game Machine offered by the Automatic Sports Company. Cast Iron arcade machine, floor model, has two articulated players, in a cast iron case with elaborate marquee displaying two embossed football players, pedestal base decorated with ornate panels, and enamel plaque with instructions: "To Play the Football Game insert coin in slot to obtain a ball and press handle gently. Each player uses handles to pass the ball. Your coin returned every time you kick a goal."

Sign inscribed "The Property Of A. Rowland & Son, Smedley Road Works, Manchester."

The company also made a machine allowing the user to test their strength[1]
