1982 Fairclough Construction acquired William Press Group[1], to form AMEC plc which was listed on the London Stock Exchange.

1988 Acquisition of Matthew Hall Group of companies, with 10000 employees worldwide.

1997 Acquisition of 41.65 per cent holding in SPIE, French electrical contracting and construction business

2000 Acquisition of AGRA, North American environmental, engineering and construction services company which had its origins in the late 19th century.

2003 Lauren Kamtech's US operations acquired

2003 Acquisition of remainder of shares in SPIE

2005 Acquisition of NNC Holdings Limited, the UK’s leading private sector nuclear service business, and Paragon Engineering Services, Inc. based in Houston, Texas.

2007 AMEC sold its UK construction arm to Morgan Sindall

2008 AMEC sold its internal plant hire division to Speedy Hire

2010 Purchased Entec UK for £61.2M

2014 In January, AMEC provisionally agreed a £1.9bn takeover of Swiss (US) rival Foster Wheeler. AMEC completed its purchase of Foster Wheeler on 13 November 2014 and simultaneously changed its name to Amec Foster Wheeler
