1984 This was the first new retail bank established in Scotland since 1844, to provide Scottish-based banking and investment management services for wealthy clients.

1986 Absorbed Continental Trust Ltd, thereby acquiring a branch in London.

1990 the bank’s geographical coverage was extended to include a branch in Guernsey.

1992 Adam & Company suffered significant losses in its London-based treasury operation but was quickly able to recover with help.

1993 the Royal Bank of Scotland Group acquired the bank’s entire share capital.

2021 Part of the business, including the Adam & Company brand, was sold. Adam’s lending and banking customer relationships, which were retained, were subsequently transferred to Coutts.
