ALBERT EDWARD ADAMS was surveyor and waterworks engineer to the Borough of Chippenham for over 40 years and in that capacity carried out extensive schemes of sewage disposal, sewerage systems, and waterworks in North Wiltshire; his work also covered numerous housing schemes, markets, parks, and highways.
He served his apprenticeship with the engineer of the Frome Urban District Council from 1885 to 1889, and after holding appointments as junior and chief assistant respectively to the town councils of Grimsby and Coalville, Leicester, he was appointed in 1906 to the position at Chippenham which he held until his retirement in 1936. He also practised as a consulting civil engineer in the Chippenham district.
Mr. Adams was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1900, and in 1917 presented a paper on "Removal of Iron Discoloration and Objectionable Odour from a Public Water Supply, without the Use of Chemicals". His death occurred on 4th May 1940.
