"ALBERT GEORGE WARNER INERD COOPER was connected with railways in South America during almost the whole of his professional career. He was educated at the Grammar School and the Technical College in Brighton, and at Bristol University College.
His apprenticeship was served from 1900 to 1902 with Messrs. Topham, Jones and Railton, contractors to the Admiralty on the dockyard extensions at Gibraltar, with whom he remained as assistant engineer for another year. After acting in the same capacity for Messrs. Butterfield and Swire, for whom he was engaged on the construction of a shipyard at Hong Kong, he began, in 1910, his long connection with South America on his raking up the appointment of assistant to the chief engineer of the Great Western Railway of Brazil.
He was promoted to the post of chief engineer three years later, and held this position until 1928, when he became general manager of the Paraguay Central Railway. He relinquished this appointment in 1944 on account of ill health and returned to England. He continued, however, to ally himself with the interests of the company, and acted as technical adviser to the board of directors until his death, which occurred on 21st September 1949 in his sixty-seventh year. Mr. Cooper was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1906, and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1910."
