Albert William Harrington (1916-1998) of Stanton Instruments
1916 Born in Edmonton[1]
1930 Joined E. W. Mann, scientific instrument maker, 61 Farringdon Road, EC1, on a 4-year apprenticeship.
1934 Spent a few months living rough in the West Country; lifeguard at Torquay.
1934 Joined Degrave Short and Co, as trainee in Small Beams.
1939 Married Ena Bridges
1939 Albert W Harrington, a fine balances fitter, and Ena Harrington lived in Merton and Morden[2]
WWII Heavily involved in defence work on the basis of his expertise in precision weighing.
c1942 Commenced making balances at his home, working out his ideas on construction; this grew to be a product sold through H. M. Stanley (Scales and Weights) while he remained employed by L. Oertling
Post-WWII Member of a BIOS[3] team in Germany. Many links established in this time with research and science establishments which provided an important basis for the later Stanton Instruments company<ref>History of Stanton Instruments
1946 Set up Stanton Instruments with the help of Henry Morton Stanley
1947 Member of a second BIOS team in Germany with H M Stanley.
1968 After Averys acquired the Stanton group, Harrington remained as managing director.
1971 resigned from the board of Stanton Instruments. Founded ITM Ltd at Colby Mews.
c1975 Retired
1998 Died in Bridport
