Major ALEC GARDINER, R.E., born in India in 1873, was killed in action before Givenchy on the 20th December, 1914.
Gazetted in 1891, he was subsequently ordered to India, where he served in the Railway Department of the Government, with a short interval of war service at Suakin, until 1914, when he was sent straight to France. He had acted as Agent of the Oudh and Rohilkund State Railway, and had devised a system of cab signals and automatic electrical control of moving trains.
Major Gardiner was elected an Associate on the 4th February, 1908.
