Alexander Fowler Wyncoll (1902-1942)

Major ALEXANDER FOWLER WYNCOLL. R.A.S.C. (ret.), was born in 1902 and educated at Bedford School. He entered Sandhurst in 1920 and in 1924 was gazetted to the R.A.S.C. After attending courses in mechanical transport at the training centre of the Corps he subsequently served a two years' apprenticeship with Crossley Motors, Ltd., Gorton.
From 1931 to 1934 he was officer-in-charge of Army Land Transport in Jamaica, where he was responsible for the maintenance of vehicles. Two years later he was made assistant inspector in the Mechanical Transport Division, Woolwich, with responsibility for the inspection of all wheeled vehicles in the Army, and in 1938 he was appointed assistant inspector of the Tanks Division, representing the chief inspector of the Mechanization Department at Birmingham, where he had under his orders an inspection staff of 40 engineers. Major Wyncoll was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1940.
His death occurred on 26th October 1942.
