Alexander Mitchell (d.1848)

Born son of John Mitchell, Senior

Apprenticed to his brother, Joseph Mitchell, engineer to the Commission for Highland Roads and Bridges.

Worked on the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal to gain experience of masonry work

Worked for 4 years under Captain Sir Samuel Brown on erection of suspension bridges, including bridges across the Findhorn, the Spey and the Stockton and Darlington Railway bridge.

c.1832 Started practicing in Perth as a Civil Engineer, engineering roads, railway embankments, bridges, etc

1845 of Perth, when he was elected Associate of the Inst Civil Engineers

In partnership with James Young, engineers and architects in Perth.

1848 Died
