LEDGER, ALFRED.- Born in October, 1850, gained his early engineering experiences at his father's works at Deptford, where during and since the Crimean War a great deal of Government work has been turned out, Mr. Alfred Ledger's connection with automobilism dates from 1872, when he himself made his first 4 h.p. steam carriage. Not being able to make use of this on the highways, he dropped his pursuits in this direction until the passing of the Act in 1896. His first car then, a Benz, did three years' service, followed by a Daimler car, his present one also being of this type. Amongst Mr. Ledger's other pursuits and pastimes are shooting, fishing, and boating by steam launch. Of recent years, however, all his time has been spent in experimental motor work.
