"ALFRED WILLIAM ERNEST BULLMORE, whose death occurred on 21st February 1951, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1902 and transferred to Membership in 1919. He was also a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He was born in 1877 and received his technical education at the Goldsmith's Institute. His apprenticeship was served with railway contractors between 1893 and 1898. After two years' experience as chief assistant to Mr. H. Humphreys, consulting engineer, he became resident engineer at the First Garden City, Letchworth, in 1904, and two years later was appointed engineer with responsibility for the engineering development of the estate, including the supply of gas, water, and electricity. Mr. Bullmore's connection with the First Garden City lasted for more than forty years until his retirement."
