ANDREW BROWN had been in business on his own account in London as an engineer's agent since 1896.
He was born at Port Glasgow and commenced his engineering career as assistant engineer for Messrs. Rownson, Drew and Company, supervising constructional ironwork, including work on the extension of the District Railway from Aldgate to Tower Hill.
In 1882 he joined Messrs. Henry Tate and Sons of Silvertown as assistant engineer, and in 1884 he became chief office assistant to Messrs. James Reid and Company of Cannon Street.
Four years later he went to India as works manager for Messrs. T. Cosser and Company of Karachi, and in 1895 he spent a year on bridge building work in connexion with the Mushkaf Bolan Railway.
He then returned to England to commence his own business in Cannon Street.
Mr. Brown, who became a Graduate of the Institution in 1886 and a Member in 1889, died on 17th January 1929.
