ARCHIBALD WILLIAM WILLET was born in Aberdeen on the 29th January, 1858, and died there on the 11th October, 1942.
He was educated at Aberdeen Grammar School and at the Universities of Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
After serving his pupilage to his father, the late Mr. John Willet, M. Inst. C.E., he was appointed, in 1880, assistant to Mr. W. Smith, M.Inst.C.E., the Harbour Engineer of Aberdeen.
In 1881 he joined the staff of Mr. Francis Stevenson, M. Inst. C.E., Chief Engineer to the London and North Western Railway, and acted as assistant resident engineer and later as resident engineer in charge of numerous new works on that Railway.
In 1912 he succeeded the late Mr. G. R. Jebb, former Vice-President Inst. C.E., as Chief Engineer to the Birmingham Canal Navigations and held that position for many years. On his retirement he started a consulting practice in Birmingham....[more]
