"ARTHUR EDWARD BUCKLEY, whose death occurred on 10th January 1951 in his seventy-fifth year, was associated with gas engineering during the whole of his professional career. He received his education at the Grammar School in Formby, Lanes, and in the science and art departments at Southport. After serving his apprenticeship in the shops and drawing office of Formby Gas Co from 1894 to 1899 he was employed as an assistant to the engineer of that undertaking for two years. From 1902 to 1917 he was engineer, manager and secretary to Holmfirth Gas Co, Yorks. In the latter year he was appointed engineer and general manager to Malta and Mediterranean Gas Co and held that position until his retirement in 1937. During his tenure of office Mr. Buckley was responsible for the design and construction of gas holders and plant at works in Malta and Sicily. He had been a Member of the Institution since 1920."
