"ARTHUR WALTER TAYLOR was born in 1869 at Manchester where he received his general and technical education. He was apprenticed in a number of foundries in Manchester between 1884 and 1893, in which year he was appointed resident engineer for Messrs. C. and A. Musker, Ltd., Liverpool. He held this post until 1895 when he joined Mr. R. Middleton, Leeds, in a similar capacity.
In 1898 he became general manager of Mr. George Chatten's foundry at Little Lever, Lancashire, and in 1899 he again took up his post with Messrs. Musker. He was appointed chief assistant to Mr. A. Musker in 1901, and he held this position until 1906, when he founded his own business, which subsequently became known as Messrs. A. W. Taylor and Company, Manchester. He was chiefly interested in hydraulic engineering and he patented many designs of hydraulic plant. He represented a number of firms in the North of England, and carried out a large amount of inspection on the steelwork for the Dagenham works of the Ford Motor Company, Ltd. He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1909, and he died on 9th December 1939."
