SIR AUGUSTUS HELDER died on April 1, 1906, at his residence, Corkickle, Whitehaven, in his seventy-ninth year. He was a native of Brixton, but bad practically a lifelong connection with Whitehaven. Although brought up as a solicitor, being a partner in the firm of Brockbank, Helder & Company, solicitors, Whitehaven, he was prominently identified with several most successful enterprises in West Cumberland. He was a director of the St. Helen's Colliery Company, and chairman of the Wyndham Iron Ore Mining Company, both of which have made, and continue to make, developments of far-reaching importance to the industrial prosperity of West Cumberland.
He was also a director of the Solway Junction Railway Company, of H. R. Baines & Company, Limited, and of Joseph Robinson & Company, Limited.
His funeral took place at Whitehaven Cemetery. The Mayor and Corporation attended in state, and the funeral was largely attended by representatives of the iron trade. He was Member of Parliament for Whitehaven from 1895 to 1905.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1884.
