C. H. Bailey Plc is a United Kingdom-based investment holding company. Through its subsidiaries, the Company is engaged in various activities, including engineering and the operation of hotels.
Early 1960s, C. H. Bailey Ltd started to diversify beyond the dry docks, ship repairing and heavy engineering activities. While the company’s first dry dock operations had been in Newport, it also operated in Barry, Cardiff, Swansea, Port Talbot, on the Mersey, and in Bristol and Malta. The head office remained in Newport, South Wales.
During the 1960s and 1970s, the group diversified into transport, leisure, and electrical contracting. The Company operated in three divisions: Industrial, Leisure and Other activities.
- Industrial division consists of Bailey Industrial Engineering, which is engaged in engineering services.
- Leisure division operates through three subsidiaries: Bay Travel Limited, which is a travel agency; St. George’s Bay Hotel Limited, which is engaged in hotel operation, and Cordura Limited, which is engaged in hotel operation and safari camps.
- Other Activities division consists of the Industrial Investment Corporation Limited, which acts as agents, managers, consultants and investors.
2000s The company focussed on developing and operating high-end hospitality, commercial and retail properties in East Africa.
