1961 Company formed by merging Arthur Balfour and Darwins Group of Sheffield. About 75 percent of the products were similar[1]. Initially a private company, by September was publically quoted.
1966 Announced plans to build a new bar mill in Sheffield which would be used to rationalize production and replace older mills of 3 of the company's subsidiaries: Sheffield Forge and Rolling Mills Co, Andrews Toledo, C. Meadows[2]
1968 Sheffield Rolling Mills was formed as a company jointly owned by British Steel, Balfour and Darwins (38%) and James Neill Holdings (17%) to operate the Tinsley Park bar mills at Sheffield, which were 5 years old; the private sector companies would transfer work there from their older plant[3]
1974 British Steel bought out its partners in Sheffield Rolling Mills[4]
During the early 1970's Balfour and Darwins was taken over by Edgar Allen and Co.
The company became known as Edgar Allen Balfour.
