Bendix Home Appliances was founded in South Bend, Indiana, USA by Judson Sayre[1]
1936 The Bendix Corporation of South Bend licensed its name to Bendix Home Appliances for a 25 percent stake in the company, but did not make washing machines itself.
1944 Establishment of British subsidiary - a private company
1946 Would market the first fully automatic machine on the British market which would be made by Fisher and Ludlow from the designs of the Bendix parent company[2]
1948 Became public company
By 1950 Fisher and Ludlow had the controlling interest in the company which manufactured, under licence from the American Bendix Home Appliances Inc. of South Bend, Indiana, the "Bendix Home Laundry," or as it was known in Britain, "The Bendix Automatic Washer".
1951 Reverted to private company, under the ownership of Fisher and Ludlow.
1953 Fisher and Ludlow was taken over by the British Motor Corporation.
1959 Existing arrangement with Philco Corp of USA on home laundry equipment[3].
1961 Manufacturers of domestic washing machines, also equip launderettes, and supply clubs, hotels, restaurants, factory canteens and ships of the Royal Navy and Merchant Service.
1966 Fisher-Bendix was formed to bring together the manufacturing and marketing operations of Fisher and Ludlow and Parkinson Cowan, who were seeking new products and capacity[4].
1968 Parkinson Cowan purchased Fisher-Bendix.
At some point Bendix Home Appliances of USA was acquired by Avco Manufacturing Corporation
