"BENJAMIN JACKSON, who was born in 1895, was educated at the Stockport Technical School and at the Manchester School of Technology, where he qualified in the senior mechanical engineering course. After three years pupilage with a firm of architects in Stockport he entered the works of Messrs. Mirrlees Bickerton and Day, Ltd., in that town, in 1914, and began a connection which lasted—except for an interruption caused by service from 1914 to 1919 in the Territorial Army and Royal Air Force—almost to the end of his career. Passing through the shops to the drawing office, where he was employed on the design and installation of Diesel engines for three years, he reached his final position in 1922, as sales and technical representative for the firm, with responsibility to the director of the London office. Just before his illness, he accepted a position with British Oil Engines (Export). Mr. Jackson, whose death occurred on 15th March 1947, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1937."
