1881 Advertisement: 'To Engineers, Waggon or Agricultural Machine, and Brick and Tile Makers and others. BABBAGE and SON have received instructions to SELL by AUCTION, at the Clarence Hotel, Bridgwater, on WEDNESDAY, the 4th of May. 1881, at Three o’Clock in the Afternoon (subject to conditions to be then and there produced and read, and which may be inspected at the Offices of the undersigned Solicitor ten days prior to the sale), the undermentioned valuable FREEHOLD PROPERTY, comprising an area of seven acres or thereabouts, and known as the Bridgwater Iron Works, which will be first offered in one lot, and if not so disposed of, then in the following or such other Lots may be determined on at the time of sale, viz. :—
Lot 1.-THE BRIDGWATER IRON WORKS, foundries, fitting and erecting-shops, smiths', carpenters', boiler-makers' and pattern-makers shops, timber, carriage and repairing sheds, with the costly fixed plant therein. Also stores, offices, stables, cottage and other substantial buildings and appliances, together with broad and narrow-guage rails, tramways and turn-tables, with a siding to the Great Western Railway, the whole occupying an area of four acres and 28 perches (more or less), and late in the occupation of Messrs. Fox, Walker and Co., and the Bridgwater Engineering Co.
Lot 2.-All that piece of FREEHOLD LAND (suitable for building or brickmaking purposes), adjoining Lot 1. containing by admeasurement 2 acres, 3 roods, 12 perches (more or less), with an extensive frontage to the Old Westonzoyland Road. The entire property contains a valuable bed of clay, of great depth, so that, with a moderate outlay, the manufacture of bricks, tiles and drain-pipes of the best quality may be successfully carried on. The property may be viewed between the hours of Ten and Four o'Clock on week days, on application to Mr. Cook, the person in charge of the same. A plan of the property, with particulars of the fixed plant, will be prepared forthwith, and may be inspected at the works, or at the Offices of the Solicitor.
