British Bakeries
British Bakeries was the bread making arm of Ranks Ltd, manufacturing Hovis, Nimble and Mothers Pride as well as supermarket own-brand bread for shops such as Tesco, Asda and The Co-operative Group.
1955 British Bakeries was set up by Hovis McDougall to counter the then dominance of Allied Bakeries (Sunblest) and ensure an outlet for their flour products. Acquired W. J. Brookes and Sons
1972 British Bakeries Ltd was renamed RHM Bakeries Ltd[1].
British Bakeries had two factories in Bradford, one in Thornbury and one on Thornton Road, which closed recently as well as further factories in Kingston upon Hull, Glasgow and Wigan.
British Bakeries parent company is now Premier Foods.
