British Lighting Industries
1964 Company formed as a joint company between AEI and Thorn Electrical Industries to merge their lighting interests; this would be one of the largest lighting groups in Europe.[1].
Out of the 12 factories in the new company, only one small one was to be closed. The joint venture would be able to invest in the expensive production machinery of the modern lighting industry, such as fluorescent tubes; it would make all types of light source, light fitting and component. Brands include Mazda, Ekco, Atlas, Ediswan[2]. Main research facilities were at Enfield and Leicester.
1967 AEI was taken over by GEC; during this process, AEI sold its interests in the company to Thorn [3] but this deal was later questioned by the press[4] - see Thorn Lighting
