Note: This is a sub-section of British Railways

1948 One of the main divisions of the nationalised British Railways consisting of the southern LNER lines.

1974 Mr. J. L. Dickinson was appointed chairman. He succeeded Brig. K. Hargreaves. He was also a member of the British Railways (London Midland) Board.[1]

1980s Part of the region was split off to form the Anglia Region.
