1840s Thomas Brown was a coachbuilder

1846 or 1848 Edwin Marshall and his father began building railway wagons

In conjunction with Mr. Brown, a coach builder, the firm became Brown Marshalls and Co, railway and general carriage builders, one of the earliest establishments for the construction of railway carriages.

1849 Directory: Listed as manufacturers of railway equipment

1853-1908 Of Britannia Works, Adderley Park

1900 Illustration and details of railway saloon cars built for Egypt

1902 Metropolitan Amalgamated Railway Carriage and Wagon Co was registered on 18 April and incorporated as a limited company to amalgamate 6 companies including Brown, Marshalls and Co

1903 The company was in liquidation[1]
