1916 Company founded as Burnley Components Ltd[1]

Post-WWI manufactured components for the motor and allied industries.

1924 Started to develop electrical wash boilers for domestic use

1932 Started selling electrical equipment, was able to benefit from the development of the National Grid.

The electric wash boiler became the principal product of the company.

1936 Private company. Acquired the business of Electrical and manufacturers of electrical equipment carried on by Burnley Components Ltd. Public company incorporated.

1937 British Industries Fair Advert for Electric Wash Boiler. Full catalogue range. Of special interest will be our 760 Model, our Standard Hire and housing Scheme Boiler, and the New Coronation Washing Cabinet. (Electric: Industrial and Domestic Section - Stand No. Cb.415) [2]

1955 Merger with W. H. Dean and Son, also of Burnley, makers of gas-fired domestic appliances, forming Burco Dean[3]

1960 Patent - Improvements relating to dish-washing machines.

1960 Patent - Improvements relating to domestic appliances.

1961 Electrical and mechanical engineers, manufacturing electrical household appliances. 1,000 employees. [4]

By 1968 Subsidiaries also included[5]:

  • Thomas Ashworth and Co, zinc and aluminium diecasters, makers of "Speedy" moisture tester and "Taco" textile beams and flanges
  • Thomas Eastham and Son, makers of kitchen equipment
  • Bullsmoor Garages Ltd and Bullsmoor Car Hire Ltd

1970 Acquired Hague and McKenzie Ltd.[6]

1981 Formed a joint venture with Glen Dimplex to market certain domestic appliances.

1985 The domestic appliance part of Burco Dean was sold to Glen Dimplex.[7]
