1890 Herbert Churchill Capel started in business in London, trading as Messrs. Capel and Co., engineers and gas-engine manufacturers

1895 Erected new works in Dalston, equipped for the production of gas and oil engines on the American system of manufacture.

1898 Petrol-engined car designed by Herbert Capel of the Clarkson and Capel Steam Car Syndicate

Car manufacture taken up by the Creek Street Engineering Co, Deptford

1899 The XL four-cycle horizontal engine introduced in a range from 0.5 to 14 nhp

1934 The company moved to Harrison Works, Halstead, Essex where they introduced the 6 bhp twin oil engine
