1925 Obituary [1]
CECIL HOWARD MACNAY was born at Middlesbrough in 1890.
He was educated at the local High School and served his apprenticeship at the Middlesbrough Gas Works and with Messrs. Ashmore, Benson, Pease and Co., of Stockton.
An engagement with Messrs. Davison and Partner, Ltd., gas engineers, of Westminster, followed, shortly after the completion of his apprenticeship, but he had been only a brief time in his new post when the War broke out. He at once joined the Public Schools Corps, after which he was commissioned to the Tees-side Battalion (Yorks Regt.), saw much active service, and went through to the end of the War unscathed, although suffering badly from neurasthenia for a time.
After a short resumption of work in his old post with Messrs. Davison and Partner, Ltd., he joined in 1920 the staff of Messrs. Humphreys and Glasgow, Ltd., gas engineers, Westminster, and acted as resident engineer in connexion with various water-gas installations upon which that firm was engaged.
Later on, in 1923, he was appointed assistant engineer at the Newport Iron Works (Messrs. Dorman, Long and Co., Ltd.), and it, was at these works that, about two years later, he received fatal injuries by a fall of iron ore from the furnace hoist; his death occurred on 13th March 1925.
He was elected an Associate Member of this Institution in 1924.
