CHARLES EDWIN CRIGHTON, born on the 6th July, 1840, died at Hove, Sussex, on the 1st February, 1912.
He served his pupilage with Messrs. Robert Stephenson and Company, of Newcastle-on-Tyne, and subsequently went to India as Resident Engineer and Locomotive Superintendent on the Great Southern Railway of India, a post which he held until 1867.
In 1880 he was appointed Locomotive and Carriage Superintendent, the name of the system being changed to the South Indian Railway.
He retired in 1903.
Mr. Crighton was elected a Member of The Institution on the 6th March, 1888.
