Professor Charles Henry Bulleid, O.B.E., M.A., was educated at Exeter Grammar School, and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated M.A. On completion of an apprenticeship of three years in the Locomotive Department, Midland Railway, Derby, he joined Parsons Marine Steam Turbine Co., Newcastle, as Assistant to the Technical Manager.
Subsequently, in 1912, he became Professor of Engineering at University College, later the University, Nottingham, where he remained for thirty-seven years. In recognition of his services he was made Emeritus Professor upon his retirement in 1949. He served the Institution as Chairman of the East Midlands Branch, and as a Member of Council, and was one of the assessors for the National Certificate Scheme for many years. In 1942 he was awarded the Herbert Ackroyd Stuart Prize, and he was the author of several technical papers.
During the 1914-18 war he was General Manager, Nottingham National Shell Factory, and subsequently Chief Engineer, Admiralty Mining School, Portsmouth.
His death occurred on 29th June 1956, in his seventy-fourth year. Professor Bulleid had been a Member of the Institution since 1921. He was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, and a Member of the Institute of Metals.
