"CHARLES HOPE HARRISON was born in 1894 and educated at the Grammar School, North Walsham. He served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Ruston, Proctor and Company, Ltd., of Lincoln, from 1911 to 1914, and concurrently attended classes at the technical institute in that city.
The years 1914 to 1919 were spent in war service, after which he joined the staff of Messrs. Ruston and Hornsby and was employed on tests, erection, and technical estimating. In 1923 he went to Cyprus, where he acted as chief mechanical engineer to the Cyprus Asbestos Co. Three years later he returned again to Messrs. Ruston and Hornsby, for whom he was engaged as technical representative and erector. He remained with that firm for ten years and during that period travelled extensively abroad, with responsibility for the installation of Diesel generating stations. After holding a brief appointment with Messrs. W. H. Allen, Sons and Company, Ltd., of Bedford, which involved a visit to Bahrein Island in the Persian Gulf for the purpose of installing a Diesel and turbo-electric generating station, he became, in 1936, power station superintendent to the United British Oil fields of Trinidad Ltd. Subsequently he was made refinery engineer and finally superintendent of erection and maintenance. Mr. Harrison, whose death occurred on 7th March 1948, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1925."
