CHARLES HUGH WALKER was born in Hull in 1890 and received his technical education at the Goldsmith's College, New Cross.
He served his apprenticeship from 1907 to 1910 with the Great Northern and City Electric Railway, both in the shops and in the power station, and was subsequently appointed engineer in charge at the company's central station.
In 1913 he left for South America, and joined the Chile Exploration Company at Chuquicamata as a draughtsman. He later became assistant to the electrical engineer, after which he was appointed assistant mechanical engineer.
He joined the Navy in 1916, and served on H.M.S. Marlborough. Subsequently he was transferred to H.M.S. Furious.
In 1919 he joined the Anglo-Mexican Petroleum Company, Ltd., for whom he returned to Chile. He was later employed by the same firm in the Argentine, and in 1929 was appointed to their engineering staff in Brazil.
His death occurred in Rio de Janeiro on 4th January 1935.
He was elected to Graduateship of the Institution in 1911, and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1917.
