With his wife Frances Western (age 42 born Bloomsbury) and their three children Charles Western (age 5 born St. Pancras), Anna Western (age 3 born St. Pancras) and Maximilia Western (age 11 Months born St. Pancras). Three servants.[1]
1861 A pupil at Woodcote House, Hatton Hill, Windlesham: Charles R. Western (age 16 born London).[2]

1872 Elected a student member of the ICE and said to be of Lambeth
1877 Elected member of IMechE. Of Western and Co
1881 Living at Chaddesden Cottage, Nottingham Road, Derby: Charles Western (age 35 born St. Pancras), Engineer employing 60 men and boys (and Unmarried). Also in the same house is Francis J. Odling (age 35 born Marylebone), Engineer. Also a boarder, a visitor and a servant.[3]
1881 States that he is a partner in Western and Co of Chaddesden Ironworks, Derby.[4]
1890 Legal case mentions Charles Robert Western of Westminster who owns a small house and farm at Cheddesden.[5]
1901 Living at Queen Anne Mansions, Westminster: Charles R. Western (age 55 born St. Pancras), Machine maker (Mining?) - Employer. Single. Note: The next person listed in this building is Emile Garcke.[6]
1903 Legal case mentions Charles R. Western of the firm of Bowes, Scott and Western, engineers of Westminster and that they were appointed sole makers of the Desrumaux system.[7]

1922 February 2nd. Died. Of 43 Denmark Villas, Hove. Probate to Amandine Aurelie Western, Widow. Amandine appears to be the widow of Frances Gibbon Western, an elder brother of Charles Robert Western.
