c.1973 After several years use of the term Chloride Group, the name of the holding company, Chloride Electrical Storage Co, was formally changed to Chloride Group plc[1]. The subsidiary involved in making batteries was Chloride Industrial Batteries
1981 Chloride and Lucas formed a joint venture reinforced with substantial government funds. The company was called Lucas Chloride EV Systems.[2]
1988 Closed 4 plants and concentrated the work at a single site in Peterborough[3]
1989 Sold its European motive power operations and the Exide Europe automotive battery business[4]
1991 Sold the industrial battery division to Hawker Siddeley[5]
1992 Uninterruptible Power Supplies were becoming an important part of the business[6]
1994 Acquired Advanced Design Electronics, which was involved in security systems[7]
1995 In the middle of a transformation of the business from batteries to electronics[8]
1999 The Power Protection Division sold uninterruptible power supplies and power conditioning systems[9]
2000 The Safety Systems Division provided emergency lighting, fire detection and security products[10]. Acquired SAED of France, renaming it Chloride Telecom Systems, providing dc power protection for telecoms companies[11]
