1953 Obituary [1]

CHRISTOPHER GEORGE ROBERT ELSDON. B.A., who died at his home at Westbury-on-Trym, near Bristol, on 23rd February 1952, was for twenty-five years a member of the technical staff and patent agent for the Imperial Tobacco Company, Ltd., at the head office in Bristol.

He was born in 1890 and after receiving his general education at Christ's Hospital and gaining a scholarship there, proceeded to Hertford College, Oxford, where he held a mathematical scholarship and graduated with honours in mathematics and engineering science in 1914.

He then entered the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, as an advanced workshop student and four years later was engaged as a plant draughtsman at the Dagenham works of the Sterling Telephone Company.

For a brief period he occupied a similar position with Gwynnes Pumps, Ltd., Hammersmith, before becoming a technical assistant with Messrs. Marks and Clerk, patent agents. He spent five years with them and, following a short engagement with Messrs. White, Langner, Stevens and Parry, joined the staff of the Imperial Tobacco Company.

Mr. Elsdon had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1926. He was also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents.
