Clarence Dock, Liverpool
in Liverpool
One of the group of Liverpool Docks constructed by Jesse Hartley.
Clarence Dock was entered from Clarence Basin, which gave access to the River Mersey. Immediately west of these were Clarence Graving Docks, served by their own basin. This basin connected with both the Clarence Basin and Salisbury Dock via lock gates.
In 1928 Clarence Dock was sold and filled in to accommodate the construction of Clarence Dock Power Station. The proceeds of the sale, together with government job-creation grants, allowed Trafalgar Dock to be re-modelled to provide a modern coasting facility.[1]
