1928 It was decided by the Corporation to make an investment in a new power station at Clarence Dock; it would have two 50MW alternator sets with ultimate potential for 400MW[1]

1929 Construction began on the filled-in basin of Clarence Dock, one of the Liverpool Docks

1931 First generation of electricity. The station was built primarily to operate as a base load station on the national grid. The designed ultimate capacity of the plant was 400,000 kW.
