Colchester Water Tower

Constructed in 1883. Cast iron tank in brick and stone tower. Constructed by H. Everett and Sons and A. G. Mumford (ironwork). The tank, square in plan, is assembled from numerous flanged cast iron plates, the thickness being between 1/2" and 7/8". The flange faces were relieved so as only to make contact at on a narrow lip on the inside. The 1/2" gap elsewhere between flanges was filled with rust cement. Considerable internal bracing was provided, with wrought iron tie bars and triangular cast iron gussets 12 ft high.[1]
