1949 Public company formed to develop lead, zinc and other mining interests and associated smelting and refining industry. As a first step acquired the Zinc Corporation and its associated companies. The assets of the Zinc Corporation included leases at Broken Hill Mines in Australia; the whole of the Imperial Smelting Corporation and Broken Hill Corporation[1]

By 1950 Broken Hill Corporation was a wholly owned subsidiary[2]

1962 Merged with Rio Tinto Co to form Rio Tinto-Zinc[3]
