Crest Nicholson, a house building company based in Chertsey, Surrey, later an industrial holding company.

1963 The company was founded by Bryan Skinner as Crest Homes

1968 Floated on the London Stock Exchange.

1972 Crest Securities acquired Camper and Nicholsons to form Crest Nicholson.[1] which had 2 main areas of activity - house building and leisure activities including yacht building and tennis courts.

1975/6 Acquired Lamson Engineering Co[2]

1979 Acquired the optical group of Crofton.

1980 Planned to acquire jewellery wholesalers Sharron and R. and B. Baird[3]

1981 Acquired Calorex Heat Pumps which became part of the Coronet business[4]

1983 Acquired W. Greenwood Electronic[5] and BVC industrial vacuum cleaner business., which had substantial land for development near the M25.

1984 Strong growth from the property development activities. Pulled out of the Coronet-EM pump and generator business because of falling orders from the Middle East[6]

1985 Acquired C. H. Pearce and Sons[7]

1986 Sold J. D. Potter and Camper and Nicholson Marine Equipment to Smiths Industries[8]

1987 Also owned En Tout Cas, maker of artificial playing surfaces, and Greenwood electronic tools[9]

1987 Sold Lamson Group to Frederick Cooper plc[10] and Toolrange[11] and Crofton Optical Group to H. Young Holdings[12]

1987 Change of strategy to concentrate on house building, property and construction, selling the other parts of the business[13]
