Crofts (Engineers) Holdings Ltd., of Bradford (CRO)

1887 This company was founded in 1887, by Frederick Lister Croft, and became Croft and Perkins. It originally manufactured shaft and pulley products, but went on to produce power transmission parts, gears, clutches, couplings, drives, etc.

1894 Catalogue of friction clutches, shafting, belt and rope, pulleys, gears, etc[1]

Became Crofts (Engineers)

1911 Issued catalogue on power transmitting machinery

1950 The company established a manufacturing base at Benoni in South Africa, in 1950, producing gearing and other products.

1967 After the merger with Renold Chains in 1967, the company’s iron and steel foundry in Bradford was operated by Holcroft Castings and Forgings Ltd. Croft’s South African manufacturing operation later combined with the Renold manufacturing company at Pietermaritzburg to create Renold Crofts (South Africa) (Pty.) Ltd.
