DAVID CURLE SMITH was born in Aberdeen and was for five years an apprentice in the Great North of Scotland Railway Co., Aberdeen, also attending the Edinburgh University engineering classes.
He then went for two years as assistant to Prof. Jamieson of Glasgow.
At the end of this period he joined the Griffen Gas Engine Co|Griffen Gas Engine Co., of Bath, as draughtsman, leaving there in 1887 to go to Melbourne, Australia, where he was employed by a leading engineering firm.
He was later appointed electrical engineer to the New Australian Electric Co., Melbourne, and subsequently became chief engineer to the municipality of Kalgoorlie.
He died on the 28th December, 1922.
He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1896.
