1868 Apprenticed with George and William Bertram

1873 Worked for John Elder and Co as journeyman

1874 Became a partner of George and William Bertram

Then took charge of the works

1881 David Bertram 29, mechanical engineer, lived in Edinburgh with Mary Bertram 30, George Bertram 4, Norman Bertram 1[2]

1888 On reconstitution of the firm as a limited company, he became MD

1891 Engineer, MD of Bertrams Ltd, joined I Mech E[3]

1891 Engine & Machine Maker with Hannah Bertram 25, Norman Bertram 11, David Bertram 8, Bertram Under 1mo[4]
